Community Invited to North High Spring Choral Concert and Awards
Parents and community members are invited to enjoy the musical talents of North High Choral students with special guests The Grant School Singers on Monday, May 11 for a concert titled “Hark! I Hear Music.” The annual Spring Concert and Awards Program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the North High Auditorium.
Programmed to perform are the Mixed Chorus, the Treble Chorus, the Concert Choir, Northern Lights, Sharpettes and Grant School Singers. Musical styles the audience will hear include Spirituals, folk music, contemporary choral literature by Miller and Chilcott as well as classical literature by Praetorius, Handel, and Mozart. The Mixed/Treble Choir and Concert Choir participated in the Wisconsin School Music Association Choral Festival held at Lakeland College on April 18, 2013. Concert attendees will hear the music performed at this festival, which netted a first rating for the both choirs.
Sharpettes and Northern Lights will highlight music they performed at Solo & Ensemble Festival. Sharpettes will perform “Sisters” (from White Christmas) and “The Moon and Me” from The Addams Family. Northern Lights will perform selections from various styles including madrigal, vocal jazz and show choir. Several soloists and small ensembles will perform the pieces they performed at State Solo & Ensemble Festival. This will include four students who received an Exemplary Soloist rating: Joseph Humiston, Benjamin Johnson, Tanner Moenning and Darshon Wisecup.
The awards portion will recognize High School Seniors who have been part of the Choral Program at North High over the past four years. Ten of these seniors have been in a choral organization at North High every year of their high school career: Sam Broghammer, Lauren Ehler, Katie Folan, Elizabeth Gartman, Joseph Humiston, Nadia John, Benjamin Johnson, Steven Lee, Tanner Moenning, and Rachel Smith
Students will also be recognized for their participation in the District and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals.
