The Sheboygan Area School District will be updating our strategic long range plan to identify where the district wants to be by 2015-2016 school year.

The mission of the Sheboygan Area School District is to equip all students with a foundation of knowledge and skills through quality instruction, opportunities, and a positive learning environment, in an active partnership with the family and community, reinforcing values which will inspire them to access the opportunities of this society, strive for excellence in their endeavors and contribute as responsible citizens.

What is it?

The long range plan is a collaborative effort between district staff members, parents, students and community members to provide an educational experience that is challenging and of high quality. It is a comprehensive framework for our district’s work over the next five years. It is not all new. Many of the objectives are already in implementation (Differentiated Instruction, Student Achievement Plan, Coaching, etc.) This plan outlines what our district is committed to doing over the next five years. This plan is how our district will grow from good to great.

Why do we need it?

  • As a district, we need to better prepare our students to compete in the 21st century.
  • We need to coordinate the work being done across the district in a meaningful, measureable way.
  • We want to engage our community members to help us determine priorities for student learning.
  • In this time of tighter budgets, we need a strong, focused vision to guide us in prioritizing our resources.
  • We need to effectively measure outcomes of our work in order to accomplish our vision.

What is the timeframe?

The long range plan will guide our work from 2010 through 2016. Yearly action plans have been developed and quarterly updates will share the progress toward the goals.

How will I be involved?

Through the development of the communication plan, all district staff members, parents, students, and community members will be kept updated on the progress of the objectives. You are invited to become familiar with the long range plan, share ideas, provide feedback, and/or become involved in district committees.

District staff will be directly involved in the implementation of the activities under each objective and the successful implementation of the plan.

What will be the outcome of this plan?

  • In five years, the district will have a solid foundation of meeting student needs.
  • Grade level and course learning targets will be clearly identified along with assessments to measure them.
  • The focus will shift from teachers delivering information to a focus on student learning.
  • Technology will be used to more fully engage students in their learning.
  • Students will have opportunities to learn outside of a traditional classroom setting and have alternative ways to demonstrate their knowledge, such as project-based learning.
  • The success of the student will be measured both academically and behaviorally.
  • The district will provide more focused support for student success in high school and beyond.
  • Parents will be engaged in the education process.
  • All stakeholders will be informed, engaged and supportive of the Sheboygan Area School District.

Long Range Plan Goals

Goal 1

All students will perform at the “meets or exceeds” level on the common classroom and district assessments by the 2015-16 school year.

Meets - The student has achieved grade level expectations.
Exceeds - The student has surpassed grade level expectations.

Goal 2 All students will perform at the “meets or exceeds” level for behavior as measured by school-wide behavior data to provide for a safe school environment (office discipline referrals, attendance, number of students and success rate of behavior interventions, etc.).

Meets - The student has achieved grade level expectations.
Exceeds - The student has surpassed grade level expectations.

District support systems are aligned to maximize student learning.

Goal 4
District stakeholders are engaged in the education process through effective and timely communications.
